Bass Move to Ledges

Summer is here and Kentucky Lake ledge fishing has begun. Kentucky Lake is famous for its summertime offshore ledge fishing. The largemouth bass spawn ended early this year and the bass showed up early on many of the lake's prime ledges.
When the morning water temperature hits 72 degrees and stays there for a few days or a week the largemouth spawn is over and Kentucky Lake bass will move out offshore quickly. The bass fishing is really good right now so it’s a great time to experience ledge fishing just for fun or to learn how to locate and catch them offshore. Some of the bass will stay shallow and you can catch them really well around emergent vegetation - especially in the morning with a buzzbait.
My arsenal for catching bass offshore consists of plastic worms, Carolina rig, wobble head, one ounce single bladed spinnerbait, and a couple of deep running crankbaits. I prefer a plum colored worm in the 10-inch size; however, sometimes a smaller worm is better.
In the early summer I target 8 feet down to 25 feet. I fish ledges in the creek arms, out on the river channel, and on the west side flats. Find the right spot and you can catch a lot of fish fast. I’ve had some great days during the last few weeks.
Bluegill and catfish are still spawning. I found a few bluegill beds that were untouched and when I sampled those areas I caught some giant bluegill. Last week I did a half day trip where we fished for crappie for about two hours and lost count. We actually released all of the crappie.
White bass are schooled up in deep water and if you find them the action can be fast and furious.
If you’re in town fishing for fun or here preparing for a tournament I am sure I can help you in either department. If you just want to enjoy a day of catching quality bass, panfish, catfish or are wanting to learn how to effectively fish offshore I am as good as it gets!
I had excellent results in my career as a baseball and wrestling coach and use the same skills to help my clients learn bass fishing. I have over thirty years of ledge fishing experience and have spent 4000 hours diving underwater on various bodies of water observing fish in their home.
If you want to book a trip with me please try to call me as the communication over the phone is much more effective and consumes less time than emails. I do respond to all forms of communication as quick as I can.
