Wrangler's Campground in LBL

"Ride the horse in the direction that it's going."
- famed critical thinker Werner Erhard

Kentucky Lake locals and visitors would be wise to follow Erhard's advice and follow their horses straight to Wrangler's Campground, one of the premiere year-round horse camps in the Southeast United States.

Riders at Wrangler's are treated to the best all-around riding experience while visiting the campground. Ride the days away on 100 miles of horse and wagon trails that overlook the most scenic spots in Kentucky's Land Between the Lakes, including Lake Barkley, Fords Bay, Laura Furnace Creek and Lick Creek.

Then, when your back and horse are tired, settle down for the night at one of Wrangler's 220 camping sites, primitive sites or 12 primitive cabins available for nightly rental.

For both horse and human, Wrangler's has what you and your family need to fully enjoy the rest and relaxation of a riding excursion.

Horseback Riding Trails

The act of horseback riding is, in itself, enjoyable enough, but Wrangler's Campground takes it to the next level with their beautiful and scenic trails. For 100 miles, you can see some of the most historic sites in Kentucky's Land Between the Lakes, including the ruins of the Laura Iron Furnace, the home of Nathan Futrell, who was said to be the youngest drummer in the Revolutionary War or a historic abandoned farm and homestead. If nature is your calling, the Wrangler's Shoreline Trail will lead you through a peninsula overlooking a state waterfowl refuge where you can enjoy watching the shorebirds housed there.

Types of Camping

Stay for a day and ride or, even better, stay with us overnight at Wrangler's Campground. You and your family can bring your own camper and rest in one of the 220 well-defined sites they have. Some of those sites feature electrical hookups, water and sewer and most are capable of handling large motor homes and horse trailers. If a tent is more your style, they have primitive sites or even primitive cabins available.

No matter how you choose to stay at the campground, while you do, you have access to modern facilities including an activity court and horse stalls, with farrier and blacksmith services on weekends from April through November.

The Outpost is the place to find necessities, including ice, firewood, supplies and perishable goods, as well as soft drink machines. The heated restrooms and year-round showers mean that if "roughing it" is not in your vocabulary, there's still a place for you at Wrangler's.

As for your horse, they are definitely not left hungry for amenities at Wrangler's, which offers stalls, horse wash stations and manure pits.

Wrangler's Rocking U Riding Stables

At Wrangler's they welcome even the most novice rider or those without their own horses, through their Rocking U Riding Stables, which are open from April to October. Bring your family (their stable even offers pony rides for kids ages 6 and under), or a group of friends (up to 15 riders can go on a 45 or 90-minute ride at once). And, at a cost of between $25 and $35, this is a family-friendly activity that everyone can enjoy without breaking the bank.
