On February 15, 1862, Union mid westerners charged up the steep, snow-covered ridge, all while under fierce enemy fire. The teacher of Civil War Generals, Charles F. Smith, spurred them on with oaths and encouragement until they took the trenches. Join Park staff as they share how these men succeeded in their first major battle and discuss if this changed the outcome of the battle.
